Multi-Message DM Automation (with PDF Library & Rich Blocks)

How the new multi-message Send a DM step works, including the PDF Library, rich blocks, plan gating, and what subscribers see in Instagram.

Multi-Message DM Automation (with PDF Library & Rich Blocks)

Status: New feature

Plan gating: Multi-message sequences are an Ultimate feature. Free / non-Ultimate workspaces still get a single DM with image + text + link.

What changed?

Previously, a Send a DM step in an Instagram automation could send only one message to the subscriber. That single message could include an image, text, and a link, but if a creator wanted to send a greeting and then a PDF, and then a card with a CTA, they had to cram everything into one message or rely on workarounds like Google Drive links.

With this release, the Send a DM step now supports a sequence of DM blocks. A creator can chain multiple messages so the subscriber receives them as separate DMs in Instagram chat, exactly like a human replying step by step.

How it looks for non-Ultimate users

Non-Ultimate workspaces keep the single-message experience. The DM step shows the image drop zone, text field, and Add Link, followed by an Add Message button that surfaces the upgrade path when tapped.

Non-Ultimate Send a DM step shows a single message with Add Message button

Tapping into the message options reveals the locked block picker with an Upgrade to Ultimate, Unlock multi-message sequences banner. Text, Files, Media, and Card blocks are visible but disabled until upgrade.

Support talking point: If a creator on a free / starter plan asks, “Why can’t I add another message?”, the answer is: multi-message DM sequences are an Ultimate feature. Point them to the upgrade banner inside the DM step.

How it looks for Ultimate users

On Ultimate, the block picker is fully unlocked. After the initial DM, creators can append any combination of Text, Files, Media, and Card-with-Images blocks, each one is delivered as a separate DM in the subscriber’s Instagram inbox.

Each block is independently editable and re-orderable, and the Variations control at the top right still applies, so creators can A/B test multiple variations per block.

What the subscriber sees on Instagram

This is what an Ultimate multi-message sequence actually looks like delivered into the subscriber’s Instagram inbox, each block lands as its own native DM bubble, in order:

Subscriber's Instagram inbox showing a multi-message DM sequence: Hello text, a PDF file attachment, a creator image, a Test Yo text, and a Card with Images for Zorcha 2nd Biggest DM Automation Tool

Subscriber-side view in Instagram, each block lands as its own native DM.

What’s happening here, top to bottom:

  1. CTA bubble (“Send me the link”) - the trigger from the automation’s first step.

  2. Subscriber reply (“Send me the link”) - the user taps the CTA, which fires the DM sequence.

  3. Text block - “Hello”.

  4. Files block - PDF (1780674065007-airtel_bill_pdf.p…, 215 KiB) delivered natively, no Drive redirect.

  5. Media block - image of the creator.

  6. Text block - “Test Yo 😀”.

  7. Card with Images block - “Zorcha 2nd Biggest DM Automation Tool” with a Buy Zorcha CTA button.

Support talking point: This screenshot is the best single asset to send a creator who’s on the fence about upgrading, it makes the difference between a single message and a full DM sequence obvious at a glance.

The PDF Library (Files block)

The Files block is the headline addition. It opens a PDF Library modal where the creator can:

  1. Upload a new PDF (shown with file name + size).

  2. Rename it under Name in the library so it’s easy to find later.

  3. Click Upload & Attach to save it to the workspace’s reusable library.

  4. Pick from previously uploaded PDFs and click Attach PDF to add it to the DM step.

Why this matters

Today, most creators paste a Google Drive link when delivering a PDF (meal plan, workout guide, lookbook, etc.). That flow has two big problems:

  • Redirection friction - the subscriber leaves Instagram, hits a Drive permissions screen, sometimes a Google login, and many drop off before ever opening the file.

  • No native preview - the link looks like a generic URL, not a deliverable.

With the Files block, the PDF is rendered natively inside the Instagram DM as a file attachment. The subscriber taps it once and reads it inline, no redirect, no auth wall, no drop-off.

Support talking point: If a creator is using Drive links for lead magnets or guides today, recommend migrating to the Files block. It’s the single biggest conversion lift in this release.

Worked example - Nutritionist follow-up

A nutritionist wants to onboard new subscribers with a multi-step welcome:

  1. Message 1 (Text + image) - “Hey! Thanks for subscribing 👋 I’ll send your free plan in a sec.”

  2. Message 2 (Files block) - Attach Starter_Nutrition_Plan.pdf from the PDF Library.

  3. (Optional) Message 3 (Text) - “Reply with your goals, and I’ll personalise it for you.”

  4. (Optional) Message 4 (Card with Images) - CTA card “Book a 1:1 consult” linking to a booking page.

The subscriber receives four discrete DMs in their Instagram inbox — feels human, no redirects, PDF opens inline.

Variations

The Variations chip at the top right of the Send a DM step still works. Each block in the sequence can have multiple variations (e.g., 5 different opening lines), and the automation rotates through them per send. This is unchanged from the previous DM experience, but now applies to every block in a multi-message sequence.

FAQ

Q: My multi-message DM isn’t sending all blocks, what’s wrong?

Check the workspace plan first. If it’s not Ultimate, only the first message will be sent, and the rest are ignored. The upgrade prompt should be visible in the editor.

Q: PDF upload fails / nothing happens after clicking Upload & Attach.

Confirm the file is under the size limit and retry. If it still fails, capture the file name + size and escalate, the PDF Library is server-side storage, so failures usually indicate a backend/upload error rather than a client issue.

Q: Can I reuse the same PDF across multiple automations?

Yes, once uploaded, the PDF lives in the workspace’s PDF Library and can be attached to any future DM step without re-uploading.

Q: Why are Audio and Card Carousel greyed out with a “SOON” badge?

Those block types are on the roadmap but not yet released. No ETA to share with users.

Q: Does this work for both creator and business Instagram accounts?

Yes, file attachments use Instagram’s native DM file delivery and work across both account types, subject to Instagram’s standard messaging permissions (the subscriber must have messaged the account or opted in within the 24-hour window).
